VISUAL IDENTITY DEVELOPMENT
Cast, a start-up concept built for an industry veteran, is an e-commerce lifestyle brand dedicated to celebrating Southern craftsmanship and culture. Focused on curating exceptional products from regional artisans and vendors, Cast brings the spirit of the South to its customers. From handmade goods to carefully sourced provisions, the brand elevates a way of life with an emphasis on enduring quality, heritage, and style.

BREAKING DOWN THE BRAND
THE VISION
To express the soul of the South through design—grounded in the traditions of talented makers, yet crafted to resonate with the modern consumer. The Cast brand is built to honor the values of endurance and excellence, and therefore its visual identity needed to resonate by evoking the character of Southern culture. The aim was to craft a timeless design system that stands confidently in today’s competitive market. This cohesive identity ensures that Cast will remain rooted in the culture it celebrates while appealing to a wide range of customers who appreciate both excellence and authenticity.
LOGO DESIGN
Inspired by cast iron pans—a staple of Southern cooking—the primary wordmark is a bold and sturdy stencil; a nod to the historic look of hand-stamped letters on the bottom of the famous cookware. This emblem underscores the brand's desire to tell generational stories through heirloom pieces. Surrounding the corresponding mark is also a double border designed to mimic the look and feel of a pan’s underside–a subtle yet refined element that sends a message of durability.
COLOR PALETTE
A color palette grounded in a sense of place. Cast Iron, a deep black, symbolizes strength and stability, while Marsh, a rich dark green, evokes lush wetlands. Magnolia, a creamy neutral, represents the South’s most famous and elegant flower. The blue hues of Coastline and Blue Ridge reflect the water and mountains that define much of the terrain. Red Clay, a rust hue, calls to mind the earthiness of the region, and Farmland, a warm tan, ties in the agricultural backbone of the South.
VISUAL IDENTITY
A set of seven icons is used for a variety of product filters representing the landscape (fields, waters, mountains, forests) and item types (kitchen, travel, fashion). Fonts are selected from those used by cartographers, stonecutters, and engravers from the 19th-century. Fishing net, iron, and tree root textures are also integrated throughout materials to create a tactile, layered experience that gives the brand dimension while visually connecting it to the outdoors.
