GUEST EXPERIENCE & PROGRAMMING IDEATION
Cuthbert House, a historic inn located on the waterfront of Beaufort, South Carolina, graciously welcomes guests to step into the storied pages of the past. Originally built in 1790, it has served as a private family residence, a Civil War headquarters, and a charming bed and breakfast. Recognizing its architectural and cultural significance, it was rightfully added to the National Register of Historic Properties in 1972. Today, the inn continues to captivate guests with its antebellum architecture, picturesque views of the Beaufort River, and proximity to the natural beauty of the Lowcountry.

BREAKING DOWN THE BRAND
THE VISION
To capture 200 years of Cuthbert House history in a refreshed coastal style that welcomes guests with upscale Southern hospitality. Under new ownership and following a significant restoration, the goal was to honor the home’s storied past while presenting it as a thoughtfully elevated retreat for today’s traveler. The new identity balances comfort with legacy—inviting guests into a place where tradition and tranquility meet, right in the heart of Beaufort’s historic district.
LOGO DESIGN
The Cuthbert House logo was created as a traditional wordmark combining serif and script fonts, delivering a refined appearance with classical elements that sets the tone for the inn’s sophisticated ambiance. After finding the original Cuthbert family crest during our research, we knew we had to bring it back into the brand as a core logo mark—tying everything back to its beginnings with an exclusive feel. Used as a secondary icon, a custom line drawing of Cuthbert House showcases the property’s famed architecture.
COLOR, TYPOGRAPHY & COLLATERAL
The brand’s typefaces were selected to honor the past while introducing a modern touch. Cylburn Script brings a personal, handwritten feel. EB Garamond draws from 16th-century roots, Bellefair adds bespoke elegance, and Audrey offers a contemporary yet classical balance. The color palette is inspired by regional historic hues and the inn’s coastal setting. Charleston White conveys warmth and elegance, Loquat reflects the lush Lowcountry landscape, Canton China Blue evokes deep river waters, and Pink Mimosa adds a soft, feminine tone that enhances the brand’s hospitality. These elements come together in a cohesive collateral suite, featuring thoughtful design details. A seamless botanical pattern evokes the inn’s gardens, while a custom line drawing highlights the property’s architectural significance. Photographic overlays of Spanish moss and magnolia trees add texture, depth, and sincerity to the visual identity.
